The huge surge of cannabis into quasi-legality has created complicated pseudo-markets and a patchwork of state by state regulations developing in the absence of federal oversight. The situation has arguably led to even greater confusion than the Wild West days of yore. In Colorado and the Northwest, product recalls, plant quarantines, fines, and cease and desist notices in response to off-label pesticide use have already occurred. A product liability lawsuit was even filed in Colorado last year and, though it was dismissed, is likely a sign of more to come. And while certainly no one, in principle, objects to the concept of “organic cannabis” – and many claim to produce it – the definitive meaning of such a label is currently unclear, opening the door to misleading usages by producers and retailers. In fact, the term has very specific legal definitions under the USDA and the Organic Trade Association label for food products.

This webinar will feature leading voices from within the commercial cannabis movement who have deep experience with these issues. Speakers will discuss:

  • Good agricultural practices that reduce or eliminate the need for pesticides - cleanlinessprotocols, proactive sprays and solutions, using approved state products, 85% of problems with pests have to do with retrofitted old facilities poor facility design
  • Potential differences in plant health and resin yields between organically grown cannabis vs. otherwise
  • Labs and analytics companies are the gatekeepers of the industry - once we regulate them that will help credibility of overall industry
  • Formation of internally driven organic standards
  • How to get involved with state policy development. How are different states treating this;how to create Integrated Pest Management guidelines aka “ IPMs” – how current state guidelines may provide the template for a future federal regulatory framework
What you'll come away with: a clearer understanding of where this industry stands on contamination, product quality and product labeling; as well as a greater ability to make informed decisions on business models that make claims about organic production. For current cannabis business owners, this webinar will help position your brand ahead of the curve so as not to be sideswiped with high compliance costs when cannabis does in fact go national.
