BlueTech Webinar Series: Exploring Groundwater Treatment Technology: Market Opportunities and Regulatory Drivers
Thursday, July 24, 2014:
11:00 AM – 12:30 PM EDT
4:00 PM – 5:30 PM BST
BlueTech® Research, in conjunction with B2B Webinars, would like to invite you to our upcoming interactive webinar on the changing dynamics within the groundwater treatment market.
Water scarcity and declining groundwater quality is driving utilities to invest in more advanced treatment systems to provide adequate water delivery. Previously ignored sources of groundwater that suffer from high levels of inorganic contaminants are now being recognized as necessary water supply resources. While low quality water is costly to treat, historic droughts throughout the US are limiting utilities selectivity about source water.
Concurrently, regulatory limits are growing stricter and incorporating more contaminants, especially as their potential negative environmental and health impacts are better understood. Changes to the arsenic and radium MCLs in the early 2000s created substantial market opportunity in the US, with thousands of utilities failing to meet the new water quality standards.
In this BlueTech Webinar, panelists will discuss inorganic contaminants of concern that could see increased regulation, such as hexavalent chromium and selenium. California recently passed very aggressive drinking water standards for chromium-6 set to go in effect on July 1st, reducing the allowable limit from 50 ppb to 10 ppb. The cost to reach such a standard is estimated in the hundreds of millions for the California water utilities affected. Nitrates are also a considerable challenge for small rural water systems due to fertilizer runoff infiltrating aquifers. There are several hundred water treatment facilities estimated to be breaching the USEPA MCL limit for nitrate loading, which, if enforced, would lead to opportunity for nitrate removal/recovery technology. Panelists will address these market opportunities, as well as regulatory drivers in groundwater treatment. The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session to address specific questions from participants.
The following topics to be discussed:
- What is the current state of heavy metal regulations, and how will tighter limits affect the market?
- How do facilities deal with nitrate concentrations above the allowed limits, and what is the market potential for nitrate removal?
- What technological pain points exist within the inorganic removal and recovery landscape?
- What are the management and technology challenges for radionucleide removal?
- What are the treatment trains typically utilized in targeting certain contaminants? What are their advantages and disadvantages, and are there alternative approaches?
- What innovations are emerging and leading to new opportunities?
Who should attend?
- Investors looking to understand the market opportunity in the removal of heavy metals and inorganics from groundwater.
- Water industry executives looking to maintain (or establish) a competitive advantage and inform strategic moves in this growing market segment.
- Technology providers looking for technology gaps and unmet needs.
- Consultants, policy makers and regulators looking to stay on top of the latest market trends and the state of technological innovation in the groundwater treatment market segment.
